Senior R&D Program Manager


Galway
Permanent - €90 - €105k DOE
GxP Recruitment are excited to be partnering with our long term Medical Device client on this R&D Program Lead role.
Summary of Responsibilities
  • Leads with Vision: Provides expert technical leadership and strategic direction to project teams and senior stakeholders, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
  • Drives Program Success: Oversees multiple programs with defined delivery frameworks, ensuring all initiatives are executed on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Owns Program Outcomes: Sets clear objectives, milestones, and risk mitigation plans, managing budgets and technical performance to meet or exceed design targets.
  • Accountable for Excellence: Takes full ownership of program processes and outcomes, with a strong focus on operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Optimises Team Performance: Assesses and aligns resource capabilities to project demands, ensuring the right skills are in place to deliver on commitments.
  • Inspires and Develops Talent: Mentors internal teams and external partners, cultivating a high-performance culture with clear goals, accountability, and recognition.
  • Champions Innovation: Fosters a dynamic environment of technical creativity and continuous improvement in the development of world-class medical devices.
  • Builds Collaborative Solutions: Resolves challenges through strategic communication and influence, enhancing cross-functional alignment and cooperation.
  • Strengthens Cross-Functional Synergy: Develops strong working relationships across departments to ensure teams have the information and resources to succeed.
  • Excels in Global Collaboration: Works effectively across time zones and cultures, leading remote, multidisciplinary teams to successful outcomes.
  • Adapts with Agility: Regularly reviews and refines project plans to respond to evolving requirements and ensure optimal delivery.
  • Represents the Brand with Credibility: Serves as a key representative of the team to external stakeholders, building trust and confidence.
  • Travel-Ready: Open to global travel (~10%) to support program success and stakeholder engagement.


Key Skills & Experience
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree (Level 8) in Engineering, Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Industry Expertise: 7+ years of relevant experience, or 5+ years with a postgraduate qualification, ideally within the medical device sector.
  • Leadership in Innovation: Proven experience leading high-performing teams through complex, cross-functional product development programs.
  • Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of catheter-based or equivalent product development, with hands-on proficiency in structured, requirements-driven design and verification.
  • Process-Driven Excellence: Skilled in DFMEA, PFMEA, and risk management practices, driving product integrity and safety.
  • Project Management Proficiency: Adept in both traditional (Waterfall) and modern (Agile, Scrum) methodologies, with the ability to tailor approaches for maximum impact.
  • Execution-Focused Leadership: Successfully manages major workstreams with a strategic approach to budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning.
  • Exceptional Communicator: Communicates clearly and persuasively across all levels of the organisation and with external partners, ensuring transparency and buy-in.
  • Influence Without Authority: Skilled in stakeholder engagement, aligning diverse perspectives to drive consensus and achieve shared objectives.
  • Strategic Problem Solver: Balances competing priorities and objectives to maintain progress, mitigate risks, and ensure strategic alignment.
