Senior Automation Engineer

Responsibilities
  • Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Work with Engineering, Operations and Quality to produce conceptual mechanical designs with a strong level of understanding of electrical and software controls.
  • Develop, build, and test designs and concepts for proof-of-principle and feasibility.
  • Generate clear and detailed equipment and software specifications based on process needs.
  • Collaborate with external Automation partners during build, development, testing and validation of Automation equipment.
  • Collaborate and partner with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on objectives, strategy, and goals.
  • Ensure operations and production staff are adequately trained and staffed to support Automation systems prior to deployment.
  • Drive testing and validation of Automation Equipment and software
  • Provide post go-live support to ensure rapid performance achievement.
  • Develop and drive best practices around Automation equipment design principles and standards, software change control, process control for consistent and scalable application.
  • Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
Key Skills & Experience
  • Experience working with external Automation vendors, developing and working with User Requirement (URS) and Functional Design Specifications (FDS), GAMP5 and Compliance systems.
  • Vision system design and software development experience.
  • Robots/Cobots programming experience.
  • Proficiency with Electrical networks. Able to review and understand electrical, pneumatic and mechanical schematics and P&IDs.
  • Proficiency with HMI platforms, PLC’s and KPI measurement platforms
  • Dynamic team player. Can work effectively and proactively on cross-functional teams.
  • Technically competent with automated manufacturing systems and processes.
  • Proficient and experienced with MS Project, Office, Data analysis and Lean/Six Sigma.
  • Proven track record of results achievement.
  • Has strong business and financial acumen, analytical, data and systems driven.
  • Is well organised and resourceful and does what it takes to get the job done.
  • Has proven leadership ability, approachable and collaborates with others with ease.
  • An effective communicator with all levels of the organisation and comfortable with presenting to senior leadership. Is energised by tough challenges and perseveres to achieve the final result.
  • Manages and resolves conflict quickly.
Qualifications
  • Requires advanced knowledge of job area combining breadth and depth, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
  • Minimum Level 8 recognised third level Degree in a Science/Technology/Engineering/Biomedical/ Mechatronic/Polymer related discipline (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Automation or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, preferably within the highly regulated Medtech sector.
  • Ideally, possesses a formal Project Management Certification (PMP, IPMA Level C or equivalent).
