Operational Engineer

Overview:
This role is a key member of the Site Operational Engineering Group reporting the Op’s Engineering Manager. The mandate of this group is to enable teams and business functions to improve operations and reduce waste by improving reliability and efficiency, through the use and application of Continuous Improvement tools, techniques, and methodologies. The Op’s Engineer will measure performance and identify opportunities to optimize and improve productivity. This role requires in-depth knowledge of continuous improvement tools, techniques, and methodologies and practical experience applying them to improve the performance of processes, equipment, people, and systems. They will engage with internal customers to support their efforts to solve complex problems and improve performance.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Perform analysis and diagnostics to identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations to leadership
  • Generation of weekly OEE/yield data and monitor for trends in the data
  • Coordination of idea generation, project identification, prioritisation and overall selection constantly ensuring that projects are integrated with business strategies.
  • Support design and delivery of Lean/ Six Sigma Projects as part of a cross functional team
  • Identification and justification of project financial savings.
  • Support teams assigned to implementing the recommendations.
  • Lead Kaizen events
  • Lead user and trainer for PowerBi / OSI-pi software
  • Drive achievement for own projects and projects they are supporting
  • Train all levels of the organisation on OE principles and methodologies
  • Encouraging a OE culture by influencing and empowering employees to identify opportunities to apply techniques and tools in everyday work activities
  • Take the lead on the Eng training and development programs
  • Facilitate sharing of best practices and project successes across the organization
  • Facilitating Communications and Change Management for key programs and projects
  • Process owner for a lean practice, responsible for deployment approach
  • Any other tasks/projects assigned as per manager’s request
 
Basic Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operational Excellence or Engineering plus minimum 3-5 years relevant lean experience
  • Experience in Project Management
  • Experience in manufacturing, technology and supply chain.
  • Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes cGMP, industry regulations, product development, and commercialization.
 
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
  • Lean Six Sigma Green/black belt or equivalent
 
Competencies / Skills:
  • Can successfully operate in a matrix or team environment with site, divisional, and corporate executive leadership
  • Can manage multiple responsibilities, priorities and tasks with minimal direction
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to drive change management and influence for improvement.
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated expertise with MS Office applications including MS Project and systems for data visualization
  • Experience implementing Continuous Improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma, DMAIC, and /or Lean Manufacturing
  • Experience with regulated environments (i.e. cGMP, OSHA, EPA)
