EHS Specialist
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To ensure compliance with all relevant EHS legislation and develop systems and procedures that optimises safety, health and environmental performance.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direction and support to the plant in meeting the requirements of the EHS Management and Technical Standards, applicable ISO standards and other external regulations.
- Support and continuously evaluate systems within the plant to ensure compliance with, Local, National & EU legislation and Corporate and Division Procedures, Standards and Policies for safety and the environment.
- Support, maintain & where necessary develop an effective EHS management system.
- With the Occupational Health Nurse, act as the joint Biological Safety Program coordinator for the site.
- Work with the Site Director, Site Services Manager, Senior Management and Leadership Team to identify environmental health and safety objectives for site operations.
- On an annual basis, establish with Site Services Manager, the functional goals for area of responsibility.
- Update and review progress against goals on a quarterly basis.
- Issue formal updates to Site Services Manager monthly.
- Develop, implement and maintain the Site EHS Strategic Plan and regularly review this plan with site management.
- Determine capital and expense requirements for EHS activities on an annual basis and manage financial budget allocation to ensure area operates within agreed plans.
- Liaise with Managers / Team Leaders to ensure employees are trained to a defined competency standard with all applicable EHS policies and procedures.
- Support Risk assessments throughout the plant and oversee and monitor training on risk assessments.
- Oversee and ensure that personnel are performing their roles in compliance with all EHS standards.
- Manage the EHS Assessment of all new chemicals and processes.
- Implement ongoing evaluation of EHS awareness activities and develop continuous improvement on EHS programmes.
- Develop and support a system that ensures all accidents and hazardous occurrences / Near Misses are recorded and investigated with preventative measures put in place.
- Review metrics for assessing EHS effectiveness.
- Provide EHS reports to Division and Corporate as requested.
- Take a leading role in working with internal EHS committee meetings and ensure that areas for improvement or any EHS concerns are highlighted and acted on.
- Manage and oversee internal EHS audits and act as point of contact for external auditors of the EHS System.
- Pro-actively encourage improvements to any aspects of EHS throughout the plant.
- Ensure implementation of the waste management strategy, continually striving to reduce AIDD’s impact on the environment.
- Ensure adherence and implementation of waste contractor audit programme.
- Support and continuously monitor the Site Emergency Response Plan to ensure it meets the requirements of changing processes.
- Support the Emergency Response Team during an EHS emergency.
- Liaise with other plants within Ireland and outside agencies in the development and co-ordination of EHS programmes to provide for individual and group development.
- Manage interactions with local and national government bodies to ensure legal EHS compliance and oversee communications with EHS Regulatory Authorities.
- Third level qualification in Environmental Science / Occupational Safety & Health / or related discipline is a necessary requirement for this position, as ability to understand scientific process and implement EHS systems is a fundamental prerequisite in this role.
- 2-3 years experience in a manufacturing environment supporting EHS Systems.
- Good communication/team skills.
- This will provide the foundation in the disciplines, techniques and the basic knowledge required for the position.
